Chapter 3 Getting Started
3.1 Supplying Power
There are two ways to supply power to this scanner:
• Connect to vehicle power
• Connect to a personal computer (PC) with a USB cable
3.2 Connecting to Vehicle Power
The scanner Data Cable plugs directly into on OBD-II/EOBD data link connector (DLC).
z To connect to vehicle power:
1. Attach the Data Cable connector to the data port on the scan tool.
2. Connect the 16-pin connector of the Data Cable to the DLC of the test vehicle.
3. Switch the vehicle ignition on.
4. The scan tool automatically powers on and the Main menu appears.
i This scan tool can communicate with many non-OBD-II/EOBD vehicles, however, a data cable
adapter and other optional equipment may be needed to connect to the vehicle and to power the
tool. Contact your sales representative for details.
3.2.1 Auxiliary Power Cables (Optional)
Two auxiliary power cables for testing vehicles without battery power on the diagnostic connector
are available as an option. Data cable adapters, which work with the auxiliary power cables, are
also available for testing non-OBD-II/EOBD compliant vehicles.
